Subject: I'd say Geelong had a bit more to do with it than we give them credit for as well
In reply to: Sereda 's message, "Buckley" on 21:48 01/12/24 Sun

We had three goes at it, they beat us every time! For all the records we were breaking and how easily we were putting other sides away... We were still 2nd best that year.

And by the time we hit finals we no longer looked invincible. If I recall (correct me if I'm wrong, I may well be), we almost lost to Hawthorn either just before or at the start of finals.

I think both 2010 and 2011 teams get overrated to some degree. Bucks didn't inherit a superstar team that was ready to win flags. He got what was left of a team that had made the most out of itself - and half of them were petulant little children that didn't want to play for him because of their beloved Mick.

That's not to say he was a good coach. The proof is in the pudding there. I think he improved. He eventually was able to curate a team that genuinely wanted to and did play for him. He had some success but not the ultimate prize - and that's how we measure good coaches. Rightly or wrongly. He didn't live up to that and he probably overstayed his welcome the same way Mick had (that is until 2010 came along). But I think it's a stretch to say he cost us a dynasty or anything along those lines.
