Subject: Totall agree with you on Josh, Rocket & Cakey - here's why
In reply to: Rocket surgeon 's message, "Agreed" on 19:55 02/12/24 Mon

I have no problem with Josh coming off half-back...just like I would have no problem having Nick or Pendles occasionally playing that role....as distributors or the ball, they are a weapon. Nick, of course, will spend far less time (if any) of HB as he is now pretty much our key driver in the midfield...but I do see that if he is heavily tagged as a mid or forward, he could be used in defenese to break that tag.

And I know Josh has been training with the backs, so as reported by many (Luke, Jen, 'Belle, etc) Josh does seem likely to be used as a half back.

However, I also know McRae loves versatility in his players....so having multiple avenues for shifting the board magnets is part of the plan for the Pies moving forward.

We do have a few "one-paced" guys further up the field, and I think that Josh does provide that ability to have leg-speed in a position like wing.

Also, when the opportunity to hit the ball inside 50 presents itself, Josh is a pretty handy shot on goal (which cannot be said of others as routinely as one would like)...so if a winger can work into F50 (much less opportunity for than from a NBF), they are often able to have a "hit the scoreboard" opportunity - at which Josh almost excels at.

I think it will ultimately be a horses for courses policy.

We are looking to have a defensive cohort that includes Maynard, Quaynor, Moore, Houston, McInnes,
Perryman, Josh, Parker, Markov, Jiath, Frampton, Dean and possibly even Johnson (together with occasional band aid fixes provided by the likes of Pendles or WHE). The hope also is that the still-very-young Ryan is also able to show some building towards a level of competence that puts pressure on the above guys to perform (and that he can ultimately be considered in that cohort).

As others have stated....we have tended towards the recruitment of "half back types" so one would expect suitable coverage in this field position.

If that is the case, Josh's weapons would be far more suited to delivering the ball to our depper forwards or actually hitting the goal line to add scoring potential to the team.
