Subject: I don't blame Mick or Bucks.

While Malthouse grew somewhat petulant, he did defuse talk of a petition to retain him (which Dane Swan reports in his autobiography). The guy had just won this club a flag, and they were still planning to get rid of him. I appreciate why he might've thought he still had something left to give.

And I don't blame Bucks for wanting a job that he'd signed to take on, and not offering to defer indefinitely.

The blame is predominantly Eddie McGuire's for creating an impossible situation which not only derailed 2011, but derailed a dynasty, and set the club back a decade.

And before somebody trots out the old "the succession plan won us the 2010 flag", how exactly?

It forced Malthouse to get a true ruck? That's a popular claim, but ignores Malthosue bringing in Josh Fraser, Guy Richards, Steve McKee, David Fanning, Cameron Wood (who was meant to be the golden child just a few years earlier), among others.

It forced Malthouse to reinvent his gameplan? Well, no, after the 2009 PF shellacking, he was focused on finding a way to unravel Geelong, and ripped off a lot of St. Kilda's intellectual property.

Malthouse coached us to grand finals in 2002, 2003, preliminaray finals in 2002, 2003, 2007, and 2009, and finals in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, so any talk that somehow the succession plan motivated him is unjustified.
