While it wasn't ideal not having Wright in 2024, the protracted process of filling the general manager of football position was well thought out, and we landed a quality operator in Charlie Gardiner.

Added to that is the focus and investment in recruiting, the academy program, NGA, and father-son/daughter squads. We have streamlined some management areas (Bolton/Hine) and promoted from within (Shepherd), but added more personnel to ground work in talent identification and development.

For all the perceived criticisms of Kelly, he has identified that we weren't spending enough money within the soft cap and, with the support of the board, is allocating over and above the soft cap to improve the club and make it more attractive to opposition players.

Ned can be polarising, but there's absolutely no chance of a salary cap bust that occurred during the McGuire/Anderson tenure. Carp and Kelly are clear about the road to sustainable success but not by kicking the can down the road with irresponsible salary cap decisions.
