Aye - there’s the rub.
The entire CA structure - in the context ofWorld Cricket as it has developed over the past 20 or so years leaves us with no way of recruiting, training and developing, testing, supporting, paying and retaining red ball international cricketers - especially male batters. Last year David Warner HAD to be replaced. His most impressive wife on Foxtel asked my question from above “who replaces him?” No one had any idea. Some 12 months on, a nineteen year old who quite frankly seems to be about 5 years short of achieving Test standard is the best we can do. He was the only player in the team aged below 30.
This is episode 1 of the ongoing reality TV show selecting the Test team. It’s going to be a bumpy , frustrating ride.
