Subject: tactics for Fri night v the old enemy

As much as Fly hates it, I think we have implement some form of tag on Cripps and Walsh, especially given our centre square problems. If those 2 are allowed to run free and bomb the ball to Curnow and McKay.....

Initially my left field thought was to ask one of our strongest and quickest players, young Mr McCreery to step up into a midfield role and try to curtail the bullocking Cripps. I know the argument will be that he lacks midfield experience and probably may not have a sufficiently developed engine. My counter argument would be that we simply haven't seen him exposed to this sort of challenge, and that he isn't doing enough up forward. Moreover if he can win some of his own clearance and stoppage ball, he could potentially stretch Cripps the other way. If however plan A fails, plan B is the reliable Jack Crisp (even just for a commentator's nightmare!!).

Walsh on the other hand is a running machine, who gets possessions at will. My left field suggestion for him is Patrick Lipinski who is a great runner in his own right, and whom we might discover has another feather in his cap if he could succeed with this challenge. Walsh does damage on the inside and outside and we can't just hope to break even against him.

We will also need Frammers to channel his 3/4 GF effort when matching up on big Harry, and hope that Darcy can continue the upwards trajectory in his form against the umpire's best mate, Charlie C.

With the question marks that have been raised on Howe's defensive efforts, depending on match ups required, we could perhaps see him deployed up forward again as he was at times last season with some success.

Friday night could not be a more opportune time to remind that lot who the reigning champs are!!!
