Subject: RETURN OF TOLL BOOTHS TO CONNECTICUT?

ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS - Our state DOT is considering bringing back toll booths to Connecticut roads. Please voice your opinion to the DOT's Transportation Strategy Board....see below.

Thank you for your comments and interest in the activities of the Transportation Strategy Board. As far as following the activities of the Board, I would encourage you to check the web site for regular updates on the Board's actions.

Transportation Strategy Board:
Radio show host Brad Davis said the Board was looking into the possibility of bringing the toll system back to Connecticut. He also said he was told by someone on the Board that the Board was planning to conduct a survey of public opinion on the toll question.

I oppose the return of any type of toll system to our state...manual, electronic, or otherwise. I don't believe we should step backward, nor should we make changes to our highway system that will impede the smooth flow of traffic, increase pollution from idling and accelerating, and increase the risk of accidents. Connecticut eliminated tolls after a particularly bad accident years ago. That was a wise decision then, and still is now.

If there were such a dire need for additional funds that something absolutely had to be done, I'd prefer to pay a little more for fuel than to regress and add the inconvenience of a toll system. Paying at the pump is far easier since I'd be off the highway, already stopped my vehicle, already gotten out my wallet, and will have the fuel bill on the monthly credit card statement I already get.

Even if an electronic toll system were in place (which was mentioned by Brad as being considered), there still would be the added inconvenience of another set of payments and bills to pay, track, and file at home. KISS - Keep it simple, sir.

Please do only what needs to be done to make traffic flow better, don't do anything that would impede traffic flow.

I would appreciate it if you would keep me informed on this topic, or let me know where to look for any upcoming information. Thank You.
