this is just my two cents, and lucky if it's worth that, but this seems to be a battle of "holier-than-thou" peeps who claim to be indie/underground versus pumpkins fans who don't seem fully cognizant of papa m's works. i'm a tremendous pumpkins fan and also a new fan of papa m. my suggestion? everybody go out and listen intently to all of papa m's records, then go out and listen to all of the pumpkins works (including the b-sides) and it'll become quite apparent why billy and david belive in the synergy that will yield from their working together. after that, hopefully everybody will stop comparing billy with david. further, the pumpkins fans will have found a new artist they'll love (david) and maybe some of them can learn to spell better (granted...i'm a huge pumpkins fan), and the "indies" (purposely in quotation marks) can stop being so afraid of an artist that was both an artistic success AND a commerical success (billy); also, if you "indie"'s could get a life, stop wearing black plastic framed eyeglasses and sauconies and pumas and undersized dickies and cowboy buckles and whatever it is that all y'all do to be "different...just like everybody else i'm trying to be like", that would be great. just do something original and novel: be yourself.
