I'm not terribly comfortable going on message boards, but I just had to post given the recent tragic death of Mary Hansen.

I know many Papa M fans share an affection for the Lab, so, my favourite Mary memory:-

"The biggest smile I've ever had was as a result of seeing the Lab' play at the London Astoria (I think) in 1998. They were taking part of a season of shows that put together 4 eclectic acts - Aerial M and Jimi Tenor were also on that bill".

"The Lab were on last and played the most racous set I've ever heard them play. About halfway through they just dropped their normal reserve and (honestly) rocked out. They finished with Crest and Mary and Laetitia just beamed at each other for 10 minutes with such affection: (I guess)for what they were doing, who they were, what they had become, and obviously how close they were. At one point Mary covered her mouth, giggled and had to look away from Laetitia - she looked almost embarrassed to be that happy"

"About halfway through that last song an enormous coloured/dreadlocked bouncer who had about the straightest face you could ever see turned around looked at Mary & Laetitia and slowly (although trying to resist at first) melted into the biggest 'white teeth' smile you will ever see on a human face".

"I wish I had sneaked a camera in - It was one of those moments in life when no matter how hard you tried you just could'nt stop yourself from beaming".

"I think every male in the audience that evening went home a little in love with Mary Hansen"

Such a loss.
