Subject: meersbrook band

Hi, In reply to the message about Meersbrook Band. We joined the band in the 60's, myself George Bradbury, my brother Eric, and fellow school friends Aubrey Hill, Mick o'Connor,John Sandford and Noel Bagshaw. We were all from Hackenthorpe and started playing with Meersbrook Band when practises were held at Howard Street Chapel in Sheffield, Bill Briddon was conductor and Ernest was on the bass.Other members were Roger Briddon, Harry Havenhand, a brilliant sop player called Colin Ellis, John Taylor. Some time later Donald Hill took over as conductor and the band started to go contesting and we became a good contesting band,a lot of youngsters became quite good players and we had many successes through the years.I think the band finally split up in the 70's, ah, happy days.
