Subject: Considering an Akita for a Family Home - Seeking Experiences

Hello everyone. My family is seriously considering adding a dog, and the Akita's loyalty and dignified nature are very appealing. However, we have two children under 10, and I've read conflicting information about their suitability with kids.

I'm doing thorough research and would value insights from those with real-world experience:

For those with Akitas and children, what were the most critical factors in ensuring a safe and positive relationship (e.g., supervision rules, training focus)?

How does the Akita's temperament with your own children typically differ from their attitude towards visiting children or strangers?

Are there specific lines or breeders known for prioritizing a stable, family-friendly temperament?

In my research, I found an article that lays out a very balanced perspective on the important considerations, which you can read here: a balanced look at Akita temperament and child safety(https://furriguardianpups.com/2025/12/17/how-much-do-pure-breed-akitas-cost/) . It echoes the need for constant management and respect for the breed's instincts.

I'd be grateful for any firsthand accounts or advice you're willing to share."
