Sniff? Could that be Spring I smell? Or does Gomez have gas again...Whatever it is, there's reason to believe the cold may eventually leave so we can have fun outside with our dogs without freezing our keesters off. Let's hope it does so in time for the NEWF ROMP on Sat 3/12 and DRAFT WORKSHOP on Sat. Mar 19, info below.

Sat 3/5 10am- 2pm, COLLEGE PARK, MD: Dog Owner Behavior Seminar Brunch, featuring Pat Miller, a nationally known behaviorist & trainer, and, of course, a delicious brunch. All for only $45 and hosted by Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue http://www.magdrl.org/MDBrunch2005.htm. Not strictly a Dog Event, since dogs aren't invited, but it promises to be informative and helpful.

Sat 3/5 10:30am -2:30pm, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Fun Dog Show followed by the St Patricks Day Parade hosted by the Ballyshaners http://www.ballyshaners.org/ and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria http://alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/special_events.cfm . Enter (or watch) one of the many fun and silly contests (described on the AWLA page), then join the parade in dog-friendly Old Town.

Sat 3/5 3- 5pm, FREDERICKSBURG, VA: Tricks contest at Dog Dayz/Everyday Dogs http://www.everydaydogs.net/ .

Sat 3/12 9am-3pm, MANASSAS, VA: The Nokesville Horse Society http://www.nhs-inc.org/ (you may have to keep clicking to get to event details) is having a tack swap at Southern States (703-368-2165) which also includes a rabies clinic ($10) and fun dog contests at noon. Plus you get a discount on anything you buy at the store.

Sat 3/12 1pm, ARNOLD, MD: NEWF ROMP (without the swim) at the ~3 acre fully fenced Broadneck Dog Park. There's no actual address (or admission fee) for the park. From Rt 50, take Ritchie Hwy (Rt 2) north and turn right on College Parkway. From Rt 100, take Ritchie Hwy (Rt 2) south and turn left on College Parkway. The park entrance is about 3-4 miles down on the right, just after Broadneck High School on the left and opposite a new housing developement. It's easy to miss, so if you find yourself at Cape St Clair Rd, turn around and it'll be about 1/2 mile on the left. Park in the first lot and the dog park is about 1/10 of a mile on the left. If you need more precise directions, email me.
