Subject: Nov '02 Baltimore/DC/Annapolis Area Dog Events

It's getting cold, and dark early, making it more difficult to get out and do fun things with your dog, but there's still some opportunities out there. Besides, the dog doesn't mind the cold and you can always buy a warmer coat. And hat. And gloves.

Thurs 10/31- Sun 11/3, 8am- 6pm, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA: Four more days of AKC conformation and obedience hosted by various kennel clubs at the Pavilion, Va Bch Convention Ctr http://infodog.com .

Sat 11/2, 11am-?, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Dog Tug o' War at the city dock as part of The Slaughter Across The Water. The rebellious Maritime Republic of Eastport again attempts to assert its independence from tyranny of Annapolis. The action starts around 10am, with the dog tug at 11am, followed by the human participants at the crack o' noon. Festivities, sights and a general good time abound in a high-spirited (emphasis on both "high" and "spirits") atmosphere. Go to http://themre.org/tug/r_tug102402.html and scroll down to "Events on the Day of the Tug..." then on to "Annapolis Side" or call 410-263-8683 to register (optional). Oh, there's also Stupid Pet Tricks and Dog-Owner Look-a-Like and they may think up more.

Sat 11/2, 4pm-7pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Happy Tails Hour (s) at Paws Pet Boutique, 54 Maryland Ave. Mingle with other dogs and people, browse the unusual selections at Paws and Before & After, free refreshments and silent auction to benefit Partnership for Animal Welfare http://www.paw-rescue.org/boutique.html .

Sun 11/3 near HARPERS FERRY, WV: Hike with your dog and CHAOS (Chesapeake Hiking and Outdoor Society, based in Annapolis, MD) http://jenzakayaker.tripod.com/CHAOS/id3.html at Maryland Heights. Hike described as "challenging but fun".

Fri, Sat, Sun 11/8-10, 10am-6pm, EASTON, MD: A myriad of activities and sights at the Waterfowl Festival http://www.waterfowlfestival.org/ including retriever demos. Not strictly a dog-focused event but said to be dog friendly and fun for you and your pet.

Fri, Sat, Sun 11/8-11/10, SALISBURY, MD: AKC dog shows at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center hosted by the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club and Mispillion Kennel Club http://www.infodog.com/panels/md.htm.

Sat 11/9 930am-?, HERNDON, VA: March in the Herndon Homecoming Parade with Herndon Dogs http://herndondogs.net/

Sat and Sun, 11/9 &11/10, 10am-5pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Quiet Waters Park Arts Festival http://web.aacpl.net/rp/parks/QuietWaters/programs/artsfest.htm featuring arts, crafts, music. View the creativity of artists of various media in a mostly outdoor setting, then head for the dog park and dog beach. Food is available and park admission is free these days.

Sat 11/9 300pm, VARIOUS LOCALES: Mutt Meetup Day. What is it? I'm not sure exactly, check it out http://mutts.meetup.com/ for Balto , DC, York/Hanover, PA, Dover, DE, Salisbury, MD and more. If you go, let me know what happened.

Sat 11/23, 11am-?, BALTIMORE, MD: Baltimore's Thanksgiving Parade http://baltimoreevents.org/calendar/events/thanksgiving.html. OK, so it's not really a dog event, but you can bring your dog, watch the parade and amble around downtown and the inner harbor.
