It's getting cold, and dark early, making it more difficult to get out and do fun things with your dog, but there's still some opportunities out there. Besides, the dog doesn't mind the cold and you can always buy a warmer coat. And hat. And gloves.

Sat 11/1 10am- 4pm ANNAPOLIS, MD: Colonial Dog Show at the Hammond Harwood House http://www.hammondharwoodhouse.org/Special_Events.htm featuring a Parade of Dog Breeds from the Colonial Era, dog treats, crafts, and other items. I've been assured by a committee member that you can bring your dog to this. UPDATE: No, you can't.

Sat 11/1 6- 10pm, FALLSTON, MD: Join the Humane Society of Harford Co. http://www.harfordshelter.org/howlaween.gif in their first annual Howl-o-ween celebration with music, food, games and costumes, all for only $10 for you, pets are free.

Sun 11/2 12n- 3pm, ELLICOTT CITY/COLUMBIA MD: Stroll n' Roll- walk (and more) around Centennial Park to benefit Fidos For Freedom http://www.fidosforfreedom.org/ which provides therapy assistance dogs to those who need them. They're asking for a reasonable $10 registration fee which includes a sports water bottle.


Sun 11/2 1- 5pm, CROWNSVILLE, MD: The Canine Fitness Center is having a 4 hour first aid/CPR class, $49 in advance. The instructor is Gus Becce, a nurse and former Montgomery Co. EMT who's been teaching both human & pet classes for 12 years. In 1998 he was cited for the resuscitation of a dog saved from a house fire in Silver Spring. Sat 11/8 12n, ANNAPOLIS, MD: The rebellious Maritime Republic of Eastport again attempts to assert its independence from tyranny of Annapolis in the Tug of War Slaughter Across the Water http://themre.org/tug2003/index.htm. The action starts at the crack o' noon at the city dock on the Annapolis side and Second Street on the Eastport side. A community party follows on Second Street featuring food, drink, sights, and music. Dogs are considered full citizens of the MRE and thus are encouraged to attend.

Sat & Sun, 11/8 & 9, 10am-5pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Quiet Waters Park Arts Festival http://web.aacpl.net/rp/parks/QuietWaters/programs/artsfest.htm featuring arts, crafts, music. View the creativity of artists of various media in a mostly outdoor setting, then head for the dog park and dog beach. Food is available and park admission is free these two days.

Fri - Sun, 11/14- 16, EASTON, MD: A myriad of activities and sights at the Waterfowl Festival http://www.waterfowlfestival.org including retriever demos. Not strictly a dog-focused event but said to be dog friendly and fun for you and your pet.

Sat 11/15 12n- 3pm, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Auditions for Pax TV's http://www.pax.tv/ new show "Animal Tails" held at Alexandria Toyota http://alexandriatoyota.com/ and hosted by local deejays Murphy and Cash from Big 100 FM.

Sat 11/15, BRANDYWINE, MD: Hike Cedarville State Forest with the K9 Trailblazers http://www.k9trailblazers.org/cedarville/cedarville_hike_111503.htm.

Th, Fri, Sat, Sun, 11/20-23, WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD: The Maryland Turkey Cluster http://www.infodog.com/panels/md.htm, four days of AKC dog shows at the Howard Co. Fairgrounds . Yes, you can bring your dog, but bring water or a container you can fill up in the restroom.

Sat 11/22, BALTIMORE, MD: Baltimore's Thanksgiving Parade http://baltimoreevents.org/calendar/events/thanksgiving.html. OK, so it's not really a dog event, but you can bring your dog, watch the parade and amble around downtown and the inner harbor.
