Subject: DC/Annapolis/Baltimore Area Jan '04 Dog Events

A Happy New Year to all of you! Too bad there's not much (as usual) going on in January, but still a few things.

Plan Ahead: If you want to know more about clicker training and are willing to travel to the Philadelphia area to do so, check out the Karen Pryor 3 day Clicker Expo http://clickertraining.com/clickerexpo/east/ held Mar 26- 28 with early bird discounts for those registering on or before Jan 5.

Sat & Sun 1/3-4, GLOUCESTER, VA: RSK's 4th annual NewYear's weight pull http://www.iwpa.net/calendar.htm . OK, so it's a ways off but if you're interested in these, they're few and far between.

Sun 1/4 FREDERICK, MD: Hike with your dog and CHAOS http://www.chaoshikers.org/trips.htm on Catoctin Trail at Gambrills State Park.

Sun 1/11 WYE ISLAND, MD: Or somewhere on the Eastern Shore of MD, there's a CHAOS hike http://www.chaoshikers.org/trips.htm.

Wed 1/14 and beyond, SPRINGFIELD, VA: Lake Accotink Park is offering dog trick classes beginning the week of Jan 14, http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/accotink/bark.htm scroll down.

Sat 1/17 2pm RESTON, VA: Hound Hike at Twin Branches http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ scroll down to date.

Sat 1/17 McLEAN, VA: Wouldn't you know there's another dog hike on the same day near the same area? This one is at Great Falls Park with the K9 Trailblazers http://www.k9trailblazers.org/shedule.htm

Sun 1/18 2-3pm, SPRINGFIELD, VA: Now this is an intriguing event- take your dog on a cruise of Lake Accotink on their "mighty pontoon boat". Looks like they want you to pre-register so go to http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/accotink/bark.htm for details.

Sat 1/24 10- 12N, ARLINGTON, VA: Expand your skills in this 2 hour workshop on Canine Massage held by Pawsitive Touch http://www.pawsitivetouch.com/events.html at Fur-Get-Me-Not Dog Daycare.

Sun 1/25 12N- 4pm, CROWNSVILLE, MD: The Canine Fitness Center is having a 4 hour canine first aid/CPR class, $49 in advance. The instructor is Gus Becce, a nurse and former Montgomery Co. EMT who's been teaching both human & pet classes for 12 years. In 1998 he was cited for the resuscitation of a dog saved from a house fire in Silver Spring. More info may be on website http://caninefitnesscenter.com or call 410-923-7946. If you go, you'll have a chance to also check out the marvelous indoor swimming pools your dog will delight in using.

Sun 2/1 10am- 2pm, LAUREL, MD: Fidos For Freedom offers CGC/TDI testing and pet portraits for those looking for an alternative to Superbowl madness http://www.fidosforfreedom.org/ , scroll down to end.

Sat & Sun 2/7 & 8 10am, TIMONIUM, MD: Don't miss the fabulous World of Pets Expo http://worldofpets.org/ at the MD State Fairgrounds featuring shows, demos, seminars, food and vendors galore. We've gone every year they've had it and always had a ball, plus bought a lot of stuff at good prices. Yes, you can take your dog to enjoy it all with you and haul the loot. I figure I pay for it so he can carry it.
