I agree with your comments Mark. If pitch invasions happened as a matter of course, week in week out, then they would have to be curtailed. But once in a blue moon, such as when Man United dumped Villa out of the Cup or when Cardiff dumped Leeds out of the Cup, then surely where is the real harm in that? The fans are over the moon for goodness sake, for a once in a blue moon result/performance! Look at Alex Ferguson, even he came on to the pitch when Man United got the winner against Villa, but simply because of jubilation. Now everyone knows who he is, but will he be prosecuted for this 'criminal offence'? Of course not, it would be completely ridiculous.
The people who should be prosecuted are the hard core thugs who stay on the terraces and lob bottles, coins, etc at visiting supporters, players, and officials (again Cardiff springs to mind.) That is what we want to get rid of in football, not scenes of jubilation.
