You're right in a sense that Pro Athletes really don't contribute to their collegiate athletics programs (at least not in the view of the general public). We never really will know, because no one really says anything.

However, other alumni do in fact contribute (but again, not always in the view of the public).
BUT, have you been on campus here at Long Beach State?
Did you notice that magnificent building by the Pyramid - The Carpenter Performing Arts Center? Well for your info., Richard Carpenter himself is responsible (partially financially, and in just general support) for building that structure - I mean common, it's named after his wife and him! I'd say that's PLENTY of interest in the school and program (the renowned music program) that educated him in music, thus preparing him for his future grammy winning work.

THAT IS a significant, publicized alumni donation, don't ya think? And he is definately one of the HIGH PROFILE ONES, might I add!

I can't say the same for athletics, BUT WHO CAN?!
