Subject: orchid may be sick

my mounted phalenopis roots look swriveled.
i mist the roots every day.
is this plant sick?

Denny - How are your phalaenopsis roots mounted? Are the roots covered with moss or are they exposed directly to the air?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing as Will. Their leaves are their only storage for moisture so letting them dry too much isn't good. At least that's what I've read. Mine's in bark but I might mount it instead of giving it fresh bark. I wonder if you could set up a wicking system that would keep it reasonably moist but not wet enough to cause problems.

hi will!thanks for replying.they are exposed to the air,with moss under the roots.
i flushed them and start misting the roots twice a day and lo and behold i have plump roots again!
your right on the money liz.

Great minds! Will has the most reliably correct info of anyone I've encountered. Sometimes I do things differently with success but his advice--or in this case question--is always worth heeding. Glad it's better. Losing it would just about be worth crying over I think.
