Subject: Monstera deliciosa seeds

Can someone tell me what the seeds of Monstera deliciosa look like? I was sent some things that look like dark brown cork, but I thought Monstera had berries for seeds - edible at that, and apparently tasting like pineapple. These things don't look as if they've been in the middle of anything you'd want to eat, and they're not round or smooth. Have I got seeds or just dried up flowers?

Well, I think I have only rubbish. I found this at Purdue:

"The thick, hard rind, made up of hexagonal plates or "scales", covers individual segments of ivory-colored, juicy, fragrant pulp much like diced pineapple. Between the segments there are thin, black particles (floral remnants). Generally there are no seeds, but sometimes, pale-green, hard seeds the size of large peas, may occur in a dozen or so of the segments."

I definitely don't have anything resembling hard pale green peas. I think I have the hexagonal plates. Still looking for Monstera deliciosa seeds, folks!

My Monstera produced 1 fruit last year, non this year. I have seen the seeds, they look nothing like you described. They are pea-sized with a green-brown color. I have eaten the fruit in the past... definately not my favorite, to tart for me. Does taste like a pineapplebananasomething. I you do eat it when it's perfectly ripe you'll get the worst stomachache you've ever had.
I haven't grown them from seed, just cuttings.

Randy

I'm sorry, I meant to say you'll get a stomachache if you eat it when it's not completely ripe.

I've just got some from Chiltern Seeds. They're nothing like the things I had before. They're fat and light browny-green, and look a bit like baby bulbs. Wonder if they'll grow?
