Okay, I need no further prompting. But I warn you, it's a nice day out so this is going to be short... I swear my research goes pretty far south on sunny days.

Perhaps Dwayne might not want to know that his legacy (and Mike's fantastic picture) has spread much further than Saskatoon. I think perhaps if he came to UBC many people would recognise him instantly. These are the sorts of tales of Dwayne that are told in hushed voices in dim corners... the courageous Dwayne who dared to take the remote control from Xena. Well, anyway...

Did you know that "The Rock's" (the WWF character, for those of you who don't follow such high drama) first name is Dwayne? Name of heroes, I'd say. He's also Samoan. The Rock that is. The REAL Dwayne is Yorktonian (Yorktonitic/Yorktavian/Yorktonese?). All very useful information to know.

I picked up that morsel in the grad students bar. You can learn an awful lot in a grad students bar, I've found out. None of it will help me with my comprehensive, unfortunately.

So this month I moved into a new apartment in Kitsilano. I realised it was my 14th place in 7 years. No wonder I can't remember my phone number. Anyway, lower kitsilano is sort of like Broadway in Saskatoon taken to extremes. I think there's a guy living in a VW van parked in front of my house. Our apartment smells like pot because we're down wind from our neighbours. I swear they must be so baked. I haven't figured out what they do other than smoke....probably hydroponics. Hmmm.... But anyway, I like it. It's close to the beach. And hippies are a lot of fun when they're not complaining about everything. I've started listening to a lot of Merle Haggard to counteract the effects and keep me on an even keel.

Anyway, nothing much to report. I'm still hiking like a lunatic. I'm all proud 'cause I fell into my first crevass on Diamond Glacier. It was sort of anticlimactic really. I was expecting to fall to great depths where I would be greeted by a merry band of small worker-dwarves who mine deep below the surface of the mountain. But instead, I just sort of dropped waist deep in a fissure and climbed out. I'll have to try harder.

On a similar note, I'm going hiking with Twa and Dodgy Dave in July. Yup, up the west coast trail on Vancouver Island. This has "gong show" written all over it. I'll keep you posted with pictures and details.

Other than that my plan for the summer (other than going to Egypt to foil Jeff's capers), is to go up north of La Ronge canoeing with my brother. Should be a good time. We're going looking for the Sasquatch. Check out: http://www.ultranet.ca/bcscc/

Anyway, I should get back to "work". Things in my office have gone sour since my new officemate has arrived. He doesn't seem to like Merle Haggard. He listens to Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. I wonder about him.

So who else is out there? Check in, tell us what you're up to!
