Pensioner recovering after gang raids home

29 June 2004
A PENSIONER from south Belfast was today recovering after she was held down by an intruder while her bedroom was ransacked.

The 78-year old awoke from her sleep around 12.30am today to discover three men in the bedroom of her Baroda Street home.

One of the intruders grabbed her and held her down while the other two ransacked her bedroom.

The elderly woman struggled with the intruders, screaming at them and telling them to leave her alone.

The gang of thugs eventually fled the scene empty-handed.

Assembly member Carmel Hanna revealed the woman's ordeal came just hours before a good neighbourhood watch scheme was due to be launched in south Belfast.
