Jordanstown daylight BREAK-IN MISERY

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE run-up to Christmas has been a nightmare for local woman Susan Trainor.

For the 46-year-old single mum has had her Jordanstown home burgled THREE times since late November.
On the first occasion (Tuesday November 23), thieves broke into her house at Church Avenue and made off with a sum of cash.
Then last Friday (December 10), Christmas presents, jewellery, cameras and walkman were stolen after another break-in. Mrs Trainor believes more goods may have been taken had her cleaner not called to the house, disturbing the robbers.
Fortunately the items were later recovered in the grounds of nearby St Patrick’s Church.
On Monday (December 13), her home was burgled for a third time – this time a house key was taken.
The three incidents took place during the day.
The mother-of-two said the burglaries have caused worry and sleepless nights for her and her relatives.
"The first time I was burgled, I thought right, I’m not going to let them grind me down," she said.
"But, then I had to stand on Sunday and re-wrap the presents I had already wrapped.
"I am not easily scared, but now within my own home, I am having to keep up a brave face for my two children. I am now scared to leave my house."
She added: "Up to now I have assumed that if I leave the police to their job they will do it. But, unless you scream and shout, nobody is prepared to look at the victims."
When asked why she thinks her home is being targeted, Mrs Trainor replied: "Because they are getting away with it. I just think it isn’t on - it’s the sheer inconvenience of it."
She told the Times she is thinking of tightening her domestic security.
"I have an alarm system and I did have a camera – all the precautions were in place, but I am now considering installing infra-red cameras." she said.
Local councillor Barbara Gilliland, a member of Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership (DPP), said: "This part of Jordanstown has been blighted by burglaries over the last four or five months.
"But there is no follow-up from the police to let you know if anyone has been apprehended.
"We want people to feel safe in their own house, because at the minute people are vulnerable."
Fellow Ulster Unionist politician Vi Scott called on residents to be vigilant and to keep watch for their neighbours.
DPP Chairman Jim Bingham said: "Obviously anyone at the brunt of three burglaries has every right to be aggrieved and I can understand the householders concern about their safety and security. It’s an absolute disgrace that this householder has been targeted in this way and I appeal to anyone who may have the slightest inkling as to who is involved to contact the police at Newtownabbey."
DPP Manager Campbell Dixon confirmed that the DPP will ask the local PSNI District commander about his plans to catch those responsible and what he will be doing to prevent any further burglaries.
A Newtownabbey police spokesman said: "We would ask people to be aware of persons calling at houses when it is dark and people are not home from work."
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Church Avenue area on any of the above dates can contact police on 028 90650222.
