Two men and a woman were due to appear at Belfast Magistrate's Court today, charged with attempted murder.

A 24-year-old woman and two men aged 22 and 20 were charged after a man was found lying unconscious in the Tomb Street area of the city in the early hours of Saturday.

The victim, believed to be an off-duty police officer, sustained head and spinal injuries in the assault. His condition was serious but he has since been described as being in a stable condition in hospital.

Six people were arrested in connection with the weekend assault. Two men were released without charge pending further police inquiries yesterday, while a woman was also released from custody.
