In a land far away, farther than this, lived a lovely white mare and her herd. The mare, Sacrifice Fly, was pregnant with her last brood. Now Fly had come from a far away place too, and was now nearing extreme old age. With her mane salty with the sea's spray, she stood upon a rocky cliff, gazing at an angry sunrise. Below the water became ever more ragged. Her thoughts were somewhere off in the darkening clouds over head, but a twinge in her stomach brought her back to reality. With another pain she realized the time was near. She turned and trotted back to her herd. She gently nuzzled her stallion, Flame, and nickered softly. He nuzzled her back and she was off to find a secluded spot to give birth...
Four hours later, under some thick trees where the driving rain did not reach, she gave birth to two foals, a colt and filly. Both were white like their mother. Despite the great effort and extreme fatigue that plagued her, she nursed and loved them as best she could. For the rest of that day and all through the night she stayed there as the pounding storm raged on. On the second day she properly named them; the colt was to be Indira and the filly Mare. She thought the names were of perfect choice, for Indira meant Storm and Mare, the sea...
Four days later, when she had already returned to her herd and the rain still hadn't quit, a herd mare, Orchid, made a dreadful discovery. The rest of their homeland was underwater, and their area, the Lorn Mountains, submerging fast. Alrmed, Flame moved the herd to the highest of the peaks, but it wasn't high enough, for the mountains were not the tallest ever; that night the herd was swept out into the sea. By dawn, the storm had quit.
And here find her only living legacies: Indira and Mare, on the outskirts of this place torm between love and hate. They have no tainting of good or evil, nor much of herd life. The storm was six months ago, and by the grace of some Sea God, they have survived. Confused, hungry, lost, and don't know where to go, they start their new life.
