By default, Windows is configured to hide filename extensions, the (portion of the filename following the period). This "feature" also can make it difficult to identify files with the same filename prefix. Hiding filename extensions makes Windows more difficult to use, since you can have several files with the same name, but a different extension.

* Open My Computer, and select Folder Options from the Tools menu.
* Click on the View tab, turn off "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for known file types", click Apply, then ok.
