If you need access to the desktop to run applications from a Network Computer, here’s how to do it. There are other ways, but this will assume you are working from the computer where you want the shortcut placed. This is not necessarily the best or easiest way, but simply the way I do it.

First, you will need to temporarily share drive “C” on the network computer you want to access.

From the other computer, click [Start], select [My Network Places] and select drive C: on the network computer. From there, go to [C:\Documents and Settings\User] For “User”, you may substitute a specific user , or “All Users”.

Next reduce the window size so that you can see your desktop, and Right-Click [Desktop] on the network computer and while holding the button down, drag it off onto Your desktop & release, then select [Create Shortcut Here] in the drop down box.

Now, since you have the shortcut, you can unshare Drive C: on the network computer.

When you want to run or access anything on the network computer’s desktop, just click the shortcut on your own desktop and select the application you wish to run or access.

It’s important to note that the application will open or run on the computer you are using - not on the network computer - BUT, any changes made will be made on the Network Computer.
