Subject: F.S. Update from an Old FSMB Pal

We made our move from the sunny South to the Midwest. One word: BRRRR! We love our new digs.
The FS have to have a heater in their habitat area (we are all adapting to the temp' difference). They are not as active in the winter months as they were in Bama.
My 2 I moved with did better than the 2 hamsters, who passed within months of the upheaval. However, one of the brothers has been having declining health in the last 3 years. I have had other small rodents in the same stage of decline this little guy is in, and they go within the week. Everyday I think I am going to find him deceased. Everyday, he proves me wrong.
He has some sort of diabetes, I think. I watch the foods he gets, vitamins, minerals, etc. I think this is what has kept him going. I also have continued with the TLC. I must point out I do not think it is just the flying squirrel breed giving him this extra stamina, I had another in his exact same condition 30 years who lived only 2 weeks. This little guy just won't give up!
Which leads me to myself. Those of you who have ever had a chance to talk with me in the past (has it really been 8 years???) knows the health ups and downs I have had. I have yet another surgery planned for March 1. Cheri, et. all..., prayers always keep me strong. The little squirrel who is now 1/3 his starting weight and still curling up in my hand and clinging to my finger reminds me how much strength can come in a small package. He will be a good example for me during my recovery.
Love to all who remember me, I am still a Steel Magnolia Bama Grl, now transferred to Indy! Cathleen
Cheri...I have trouble writing enough! Sorry to have to tell you of the op' like this! Hugs! You, Too, Dennis
