I did just a quick google search, and the UofCA, Davis, didn't list the boxelder, but as its genus is Acer (maple), I checked maple, and while they say non-toxic, re humans, they say toxic, re animals. That seemed pretty contradictory, to me, and I went a bit further. I found that Virginia Tech offers an advice column re: trees. They allow you to enter an inquiry, and ask that you allow 24-48 hrs. for a reply. I'll give it a bit more than that, due to the holiday. But I can't see how the maple would be poisonous. I've given my guys both the branches, the leaves and the seed cases, and they're still alive. Course, I don't give it to them daily - more like three or four times, in the spring, when the weed cases are on the ground after a wind or heavy rain. I'll keep you posted - but Miss Crabtree WAS expecting a report from you!!! And Roy, I'm ashamed of your last entry @ Deadsquirrel! One needn't stoop, to conquer, you know... P.S. I also cannot spell for s*** - what I do is pull a mailform, type my reply, spell check the same, then use the edit, copy, then right click, paste feature to add my comments to the guestbook. You can also write your reply on the guestbook form, then use edit, copy and paste to put the reply on your mail form, spell check, make note of the corrections, and go back to the guestbook to correct, then hit submit. I would hate to be made to look as dumb as I am, thus, I've been using this pc to my advantage... I'm anxious to see pphotos of your new friends, when they arrive!!!
