Subject: Isaiah on Occultism

In my recent studies of the book of Isaish I ran into this beauty of a passage: "And should people say to you, Go and consult ghosts and wizards that whisper and mutter - a people should certainly consult its gods." Is. 8:19 (New Jerusalem Bible) A few verses later, God comments through the prophet describing those who engage in these practices:
"...turning his gaze upward, then down to earth, there will be ONLY ANGUISH,GLOOM, THE CONFUSION OF NIGHT,SWIRLING DARKNESS. FOR IS NOT EVERYTHING DARK AS NIGHT FOR A COUNTRY IN DISTRESS?" Is. 8:21b-23

The British Hebrew scholar J. Alec Moyter in his commentary on the passage says this: "The prevailing motif is darkness, for which Isaiah uses here three different words. They loved darkness, the darkened rooms in which they consulted the shrouded dead, and divine justice has given them what they loved: darkness all around and a dark future ahead, the nemesis of abandoning their God and of refusing his testimony and law." (Page 98 The Prophecy of Isaiah, 1993 Intervarsity Press) This should cause all those engaged in occult practices reason to pause and rethink what they are doing. Such activity will only lead to a terrible future darkness for them. This message was given at least 700 years before Jesus Christ came to earth in the first advent. The God of heaven and earth will not leave occult practices unpunished. Some serious food for thought.
