It sounds like your cam gear is 180 degrees 'off'. Or something is very wrong.

You do not want to chance running that engine by ANY adjustment by 'Eye".

The Valves are interfering Valves and will come into contact with the Pistons when not timed properly.

This can, at the least be a very painful and expensive repair if they 'touch', and shouldn't be ignored.

I would make sure the Gears are on properly, and that all the Marks are lined up. FOR SURE. Porsche knows what they are doing and tehre is a reason the gears are marked.

Remember, if you dont already know;

First the gears have a Teflon like coating. If any metal is showing on any of the Gears, change them. They can easily cut a new or old belt if gears are worn.

Second, the Cam gears have about 18 degrees of adjustment that is possible, and gear adjustments or replacement should only be done by a certified or very knowledgeable 928 Technician.

I would be very very careful and not run the engine until the above has been looked at by a really good 928 Mechanic.

You could be saving your Engine and a very big problem.

-Good luck.

Seth
