Years and years ago (I'm showing my age) we used to love a big Thanksgiving dinner in our Ohio home. My mom would get up at 4 am and begin fixing the turkey. She bought a 25 pounder and 6 extra legs. She'd fix all the pies and fixins for a huge feast. Before we'd eat, we all went out to the back of the property and cut ourselves a Christmas tree, which often would not stand straight up! Dad would tie strings to the cabinet doors and stuff in the living room to steady the tree.

About 1 pm the dinner was served. There were 13 in the family back then. We had a big round table and in the center was a 4 foot diametere lazy susan for all the food to be placed on. We just had to turn it to get whatever we wanted.

The meal would end about an hour later or so. Dad would go to the old record player and put on Tommy Dorsey or Benny Goodman or Glen Miller albums. We'd always end up playing the Sing along with Mitch Miller Christmas album too.

After sufficient time lying on the floor and napping away the discomfort of over-eating, we'd play 500 or Monopoly. I'd give anything to re-live one of those Thanksgivings. (Circa 1967)

These days my Thanksgiving is not much, but if I have been up North it is a day to return home and have a full dinner with the wife and kids. Now that my dad is gone, I think we will get back to making some traditions of our own.

Rev.
