Who We Are
The Institute of Continuing Legal Education is a nonprofit continuing legal education organization, entirely self-supported by its course registration fees and publications sales.

ICLE is a jointly sponsored Institute of the University of Michigan. Its cosponsors are The State Bar of Michigan, The University of Michigan Law School, Wayne State University Law School, The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Michigan State University Detroit College of Law and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

The ICLE Executive Committee consists of representatives of ICLE's sponsoring organizations and meets three times a year with the ICLE Director and department heads.

ICLE was created in 1959 at the request of the Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan, to meet the continuing education needs of the legal community.

The Institute is located at 1020 Greene Street, on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

In addition to a regular staff of employees, including eight attorneys, ICLE has established a network of volunteer speakers and authors who contribute their expertise to its publications and courses. ICLE has earned its excellent reputation by consistently providing attorneys with high-quality, accurate, up-to-date, Michigan-specific products and seminars at reasonable prices.

ICLE's Education Department presents courses in all major areas of practice and is the leading provider of legal seminars in Michigan. ICLE courses are presented in 10 cities throughout the state. ICLE offers over 70 different course titles and over 500 course presentations each year. The department also produces and offers its courses on audio and videocassettes. Course handbooks are included in the cost of the course presentation, but may also be purchased separately.

ICLE's Publication Department currently offers over 50 titles including 3 stand-alone disk products, and 15 books that include forms on disk.

To keep up with the rapid changes in the law, ICLE supplements most of its publications on a periodic or annual basis. To make it easier for owners to keep their ICLE books current, ICLE offers a Discount Subscription Service for supplements. Subscribers receive updates to books they own automatically at a discount.
