Subject: Clubs that are hated

I am fascinated by sporting clubs that engender the passion necessary for supporters of other clubs to devote energy to a club that they allegedley hate.

I am a US citizen I know nothing of Collingwood or even which code of sport you're talking about, but I do know about hated sporting organisations.

I am a now lecturer in political science, but was obviously once a student. The transition involved gaining a doctorate and a large part of my doctoral thesis was an analysis of the unique passions that are engendered by one sporting club in almost every form of competition. The club that generates such passion is often, but not always the most successful. What did arise as common across all codes was that the clubs were, without exception, always the most powerful, usually in a political sense.

My research found a common root. The clubs that display such an influence in their respective codes, were the ones that most honestly represented the roots of the supporter base. The supporters and detractors of these clubs are amongst the most dedicated believers in anything - and I include religion (how many people do you hear saying that they hate God). It's a fascinating study.

The bad news to whoever started this message board is that you are a disciple of the team that you purport to hate. Why else would you spend the time and energy necessary to create this. Have a think about why it is not a tribute to the team that you purport to love.
