While we’re on the subject of ridiculous statements, I have a few ridiculous statements of my own.

You know, we should have all stayed in high school when we had lunch and recess and we all got to sit at the seniors table and everyone had unspoken assigned seats. The only thing you had to worry about was whether or not the new girl thought you were cute and whether or not you’d get your book report on To Kill a Mockingbird done on time.

Looking back now, I appreciate parts of high school that I miss but I would certainly never want to go back to that now. Back to living with parents. Riding the bus to school. Having a curfew. Not being able to drink. Oh- wait. High school sucks. I remember now.

I compare this scenario to being stuck on The Soma Project. Sure there are moments, tracks, worth replaying, but like high school, it doesn’t show growth, maturity or individuality. In the broad catalogue that Candid has, I’m not sure that any song on the album would be in my top five. I’ve grown past that. Thankfully, so has the band. The Soma Project is a young album and one that I have a hard time connecting with now that I’ve grown. I continue to go to shows because the band has chosen to continue to grow, allowing me to grow along with them.

And one more ridiculous statement, since we’re all so good at shooting our mouths off.

Why don’t you guys start a side project called the Daydreams? You can play The Soma Project from start to finish at each show and dance around and everyone would come and dance with you and God (Andy) would say “It is good.”

I can see it now: The Daydream Boys will come out in their dancing pants and dancing hats and perhaps some confetti stars will fall from sky like twinkling memories of puberty. And going to Daydream show will make everything better. The wars will cease. Everyone will be well-fed. And disease? Throw your band aids out, folks—germs are thing of the past, so sneeze away. You’d never have to cover your mouth! Neat!

And maybe, if we’re really lucky, they can cover something cool like “Never Grow Up” from the Peter Pan soundtrack. Corey can pretend he’s Peter and prance around the club and we can all follow him one by one like the kids in Never Never Land. (see end for lyrics).

And maybe I’d see that cute girl at the show. Yeah, I know what I’d say to her. I’d say, “Hey- you like the Daydreams too?!” And she’d be like, “You like them too? Lets make out.” Because that’s just the way things go in Daydream Land. What more could you want?

Finally, maybe then, Candid can continue to make good music for the rest of us, free from the Ghost of Albums Past.

(LYRICS OF DAYDREAMS NEXT NIFTY COVER):

PETER PAN (corey):
Are you ready for today's lesson?

ALL:
Yes, Peter!

PETER PAN:
Listen to your teacher. Repeat after me:
I won't grow up,
(I won't grow up)
I don't want to go to school.
(I don't want to go to school)
Just to learn to be a parrot,
(Just to learn to be a parrot)
And recite a silly rule.
(And recite a silly rule)
If growing up means
It would be beneath my dignity to climb a tree,
I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up
Not me!
Not I,
Not me!
Not me!
I won't grow up,
(I won't grow up)
I don't want to wear a tie.
(I don't want to wear a tie)
And a serious expression
(And a serious expression)
In the middle of July.
(In the middle of July)
And if it means I must prepare
To shoulder burdens with a worried air,

I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up
Not me,
Not I,
Not me!
So there!
Never gonna be a man,
I won't!
Like to see somebody try
And make me.
Anyone who wants to try
And make me turn into a man,
Catch me if you can.
I won't grow up.
Not a penny will I pinch.
I will never grow a mustache,
Or a fraction of an inch.
'Cause growing up is awfuller
Than all the awful things that ever were.
I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up,
No sir,
Not I,
Not me,
So there.
