I would like to have a few that are not humanoid actually.. it can be a challenge to play a non humanoid character..but it is good for role playing and may inspire some people to join because it is interesting. We can't assume that all the creatures in the lost colony universe are humanoid..and I don't want to fall into the typical green alien trap that plagues science fiction.
Not that that isn't a good suggestion.. maybe the spider guys could be humanoid..but I want at least a couple species that do not.. walk on two legs, have humanoid faces and expressions, or conform exactly in size and abilities as humans.
It creates interesting dillemas... humans probably can't just pick up and use one of these creatures' weapons, fly their aircraft or fight in typical hand-to-hand combat. In that case we avoid repetition and while creating a serious challenge for the humans.. nothing is impossible and if they think hard enough players can improvise..
Good for the mind muscles.

Fyre's little mouse thing is good.. although still somewhat humanoid.. and the lizard guy, although definately different, is still a scaly humanoid type.
