Fireflies at Twilight
Michelle A. Bartley

Twilight nights where summer breeze is blowing through the grass, I watch the stars light up the sky bathed in interplanetary gas. Dust clouds hued with distant shades of pinkish blue and gold, drifting in the darkness waiting to explode.

The moon sits low within the sky and casts her gentle hue; a silence falls upon the scene as I feel peace ensue. This tranquil moment held so close and cherished in my heart, Paints a picture in my mind, a wondrous work of art.

My eyes they settle on the lawn where night now rests its head grass once green and vibrant appears now gray and dead. Yet, in the distance I can see a small and flickering light, a small and tiny beacon that slices through the night.

Then to the left I catch a glimpse of twinkling in the dark, responding to the other with a hopeful and waiting spark. Another flicker then appears directly at my feet, then dashes of in rapid haste an acrobatic feat.

It doesn't take long then suddenly the gray grass starts to glow, sparkling with life of it's own and putting on a show. I look up at the endless sky now velvet, plush and black, and marvel at the glittery stars that seem to answer back.
