Mine has a mass of around 9 kg [its weight on the earths surface is around 90 N]. Boats of less mass are much easier to carry around.

To determine the effect of mass of the kayak on straight line speed I created two virtual kayakers. Each had identical mass, drag coefficients, force outputs although one paddled in a 7 kg and the other in a 15 kg boat. Over a 5 meter standing start the guy in the 7 kg boat averaged a time of 2.5 seconds while the guy in the 15 kg boat had a consistent time of 2.8 seconds. There times for moving starts were identical.

For your benefit I did a trial on a 15kg boat with a drag coefficient 10% less than the cyclone and got a time of 2.49 seconds for a 5 meter stationary start – may be you should talk to the virtuosity boys?

Then I created 8 more virtual kayakers an preceded to…..
