I have some experience at figuring out meaning of songs, but not much, so I'll help you in any way possible. Well, I believe that the meaning behind Kryptonite is a view from a super human, or such a person that has amazing powers or is special in some way and does much for a certain group of people... ie Superman keeps the town from danger or something. So the... hm, let's call him the superhuman... so the superhuman is taking 'a walk around the world', he's just thinking a lot, so it's a psychological walk around his mind or brain or such, thinking it might help him answer the two questions (his troubled mind), I'll explain about the qustions later. He left his body back and just kind of bonded with his mind and thoughts, became part of it/them. The sands of time would possibly mean in the dust, in what is not important. As later said, the superhuman is watching himself not fulfill his duity, watchhing 'the world fall to the dark side of the moon', the evil he is protecting the group from, while lying in 'the sands of time'. The superhuman has had those questions on his mind for lots of time, and feels he can't do anything about it.
The superhuman realizes that the evil he is protecting the 'regular' people from comes from the same people he is defending, and knew 'it had something to do with you'. He doesn't mind what happens, as long as the respect/care/love for him will be true in the end.
His two questions are the first two lines in the refrain. He is wondering that if he lost all his powers would the people that respect/care/love him still do so. But, in case not, he will still keep the people close to him with his superhuman powers.
The superhuman, slowly going crazy after spending too much time 'at the sands of time',has failed his group, who call him weak. At other times they call him strong, so what do they really think of him?! He says that he will still be faithful to them whatever happens. The people 'took for granted' all the times that the superhuman hadn't failed them, all those times of terrible disaster which ended up good, and now they're blaming him for one small loss. Or big, i'm actually not that sure on this one. Small or big, don't ask me here.So many times, if he weren't there for them, they would have died a long time before. But he, the superhero they are now angry at for one loss in which they didn't die, 'picked them up and put them back on solid ground' (safety).
I am sure that it isn't really a superhuman Brad is talking about, it's probably a kind faithful person comparing himself to a superhuman.
