Reunion

Hope dares its timid glance

around the corners of desperate walls.

The absentee, the neglectful ashamed

steps out in the open, hands extended

after all too long.

The silence is solid as rock.

Shock steals most mindful words

and there is no catching up, no joy

to drown the ticking measure

of seconds that strangely pass.

Still the moment turns,

the beloved restored from far away

into a priceless instant

where no time has passed, nor waters risen

to erode a familiar shore.

There is only Reunion,

whose sudden embrace is as sweet as birth,

as tearful as death,

and as blessed as a room of lit candles.
