Shane waits for the woman's answer, wondering what it will be, and slightly apprehensive - not worried, not yet, but musing on potential threats.
Carefully readying a currently passive trigger-spell, he sets it invisibly on the table, knowing that the only person who would be capable of seeing it would have to be a mage at the same level as him, or the one right below it. Black-level was what Selneth called it, his Kversan upbringing showing there - the Plateaus word for his rank was "Judan". Selneth tended to understate things; there were ten "Black" levels in Plateaus magic. Judan was the highest one; Kudan the one directly below it.
It was unlikely that either Ambermoon or the newcomer was a Kudan-rank Plateaus mage; the training in Cehancien magecraft was very different from what the Plateaus taught, and the woman next to her was from a region he didn't recognize - a sure sign that she wasn't trained as he had been. A sure sign of safety, at least for the spell he had just set.
