95% of the mothers use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to lubricate the adult or infant enema bag nozzle, bulb syringe or the rectal tube. Vaseline has been used for over 100 years as the lubricant of choice for giving enemas. You can remember watching your mother opening the Vaseline jar to apply the petroleum jelly to your enema nozzle. You can also remember the sound of her unscrewing the top of the Vaseline jar. These are the sights and sounds of whenever you had an enema. The Vaseline also has a distinct odor. An enema affects all the senses of the human being such as the touch of the enema tube being inserted into the anus.

My mom never used soap to lube the nozzle, she always used vaseline for nozzle. The bag though was filled hot soapy water and it did cramp and made you really poop. I have heard though that sometimes moms used to lube a rectal thermometer with soap to take baby's or young childs temperature and the soap would stimulate a BM shortly after the rectal temp was over.
