I do remember a couple of times as a small child, maybe 3-4, having my temperature taken rectally with the thermomemter lubricated with Ivory soap for the purpose of inducing a bowel movement. I remember it because mom asked if I "felt" anything yet after the temperature was taken as opposed to when Vaseline was used as a lubricant. I do remember my anus burning and eventually having a bowel movement. I received enemas for constipation infrequently, maybe once or twice a year, and Vaseline was used to lubricate the enema tip. Only once, that I remember, was soap used to lubricate the tip. I was 8 and must have been constipated for a few days as I remember mom asking me occasionally if I had gone yet. After a few days, I was sitting at the kitchen table doing homework and mom telling me that she was going to give me "a little water." I saw her go into the bathroom, get the enema bag out, and mix up about half an enema bag worth of soapy water. She had me undress in my room and then had me go into the bathroom and lie on my stomach on a towel on the bathroom floor. As usual, the enema bag was hung from the lower knob of the bathroom cabinet. I remember lying on the floor with my face turned toward the bathtb and waited for the insertion. She went to get the Vaseline out of the medinice cabinet and said she needed to get some as we were out so she decided to lubricate the enema tip with the bar of Ivory soap. I remember looking back and seeing the black tip white with soap. The insertion felt similar to when the tip was lubricated with Vaseline and she opened the clip to start the enema. As usual, she told me to let her know when I felt full or had a stomachache. The usual sensations followed, at first the tingly sensation as the solution streamed in and then the gradual fullness. I looked back at the enema bag to judge how much was left. By the time the enema bag was almost flat, I did feel full and the cramps were kicking in. After holding the enema a bit, I got up and expelled the enema which worked well. However, my anus burned a lot for a good while after from the soap on the tip. When my dad got home, he saw the enema bag hanging from the shower curtain rod drying. He asked mom if she had had to give me an enema and she replied yes. I remember saying that my butt was still burning and she told him she had to use soap as the lubricant. I'm sure Vaseline went on the shopping list!
