This editoral appeared yesterday, and personally, for every issue put forth, I could easily counter. Sorry I can't do links ;)

http://www.arizonarepublic.com/opinions/articles/0506ramsey06.html

To counter, let's start off with her argument that she used to love to sing patriotic songs when she was little. Congratulations, my kids still do and it didn't take 9-11 to have them do it, as apparently it did her in her adult life. My oldest (a hormonal teenager mind you) took off her cousin's baseball cap at a sporting event a couple years ago during the National Athem because he forgot. He has remembered every time since then.

If patriotism has been forgotten, the approval ratings would still not be near as high as they are. What is Ms. Ramsey doing, besides the required pledge in her class to help promote it? Does it have to be a blatant outwardly display? Can't we, as individuals, express our patriotism how WE deem fit? The patriotism displayed immediately following 9-11 was awesome, it gave us, as a country, strength in our unity, and gave the world a big sign that we would not breakdown in the face of tragedy and terrorism.

I would say that now, what is left, is the steel resolve of the American people. What we see is people getting back to their everyday lives. Not always the nicest, not always the most polite, but real Americans none the less. Never doubt that and don't make the mistake that we have forgotten, for we have not.

Seems to me that Ms. Ramsey is the one who's patriotism is faltering. Ashamed to be an American? That of course is your right AS AN AMERICAN. But don't speak for everyone, because if you had bothered to do ANY research before penning your self-serving, pat me on the back article, you would have had your platform pulled out from under you before you put pen to paper.

Patriotism is still there Ms. Ramsey, deep in the hearts of Americans, proud and strong. Sorry if you require other's to display flash to prove something to YOU, but that isn't a requirement for patriotism.

(whew, day to vent I guess!)
