Hey, thanks for questioning! First off, let me apologize for my tardiness. Things have been kind of hinkey for me lately. The core beliefs of Satanism, huh? Well, TRUE Satanism, as defined by myself and Anton LaVey (if there is an authoritative source on Satanism, it's Unca Anton), both does and does not involve actual worship of an entity called Satan. Kind of a paradox, but some people need a paradox or two in their lives. I see Satanism as more a philosophy than a religion. I perform no moonlit rites, I don't have a ritual chamber, or intone the diabolical names, or any of that. I believe in magick only because it helps maintain my sense of optimism about the world. ;-)
According to LaVey, lots of people need tradition, ritual, and dogma in their lives to feel spiritually fulfilled, so that's where that aspect comes in. I don't know how to encapsulate briefly the core of Satanism. The best I can do is offer LaVey's Nine Satanic Statements:
1: Satan represents indulgence, instead of abstinance
2: Satan represents vital existance, instead of spiritual pipe dreams
3: Satan represents undefiled wisdom, instead of hypocritical self-deceit
4: Satan represents kindness to those that deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates
5: Satan represents vengeance, instead of turning the other cheek
6: Satan represents responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires
7: Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development," has become the most vicious animal of all
8: Satan represents all of the so-called sins (here he refers to the Catholic Seven Deadly Sins), as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification
9:Satan has been the best friend the church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years.
This is the tip of the iceberg. If you're still curious, I strongly suggest you pick up The Satanic Bible. I got my copy for seven bucks at a Hastings in Stephenville, Texas. If you know anything about Stephenville, you'll know that means you can find it just about anywhere. Thank you again for your interest, and good luck to you.
