Subject: Defiance.

Crippled with doubt
he would sometimes shout
against the mortared walls of circumstance.

His voice,
shattering into a thousand vibrations
rushing in quicksilver droplets
against the stone
his moan
echoing.

I have come so far
the scars are healing
Look

And he bared his arms
red raw gashes slashed in random patterns
crisscrossed his skin.

I am healing
I have feeling once again.

I can breath in without pain.

But the words
had become hollowed years before
and fell now
empty vessels to the floor
breaking apart with barely a sound.

Frozen by fear
he brought self destruction
lover close to his ear
to whisper sibulant tongues of indecision.

I just want to escape predestiny

But all the cards of his deck
were marked.

Dog eared
smeared with rejection
his fate
a guilty infection
spreading faster than a drug through his veins.

Bowed down
his head hung
till it swung head long into despair.

Back and forth
a pendulum of crushing inevitability
gathering speed to feed
his frenzied frustrations.

I will not succumb

And the hum of this final defiance

Chimed against the stones
to set them trembling at last.
