Their job is to study a particular aspect of science in more detail than other scientists. These are the persons we turn to for expert opinion. These are also the very same scientists who sit on the IPCC committees. They are our planet's experts. So although you may find a small fraction of scientists who disagree with the experts, for the most part, these people do not know the science and are only being disagreeable because their personal or political philosophies would be in contradiction if they did agree with the experts.
