They buy beyond their means and blame the rest of society for it." this is in fact quite true, the consumer usually does make very poor decisions, they usually overconsume the vast majority of products our economy produces which are unhealthy, unecessary, overpriced, lead us to financial ruin, bring us closer to a global ecological catastrophe, and support foriegn dictators who oppose freedom and are working for the destruction of america. This is precisely why we need more government control of the economy, because too many consumers are irresponsable with their purchases, they are the cause of many of the greatest problems the world faces. Freedom can not last without responsability, if and when the consumer does not show that responsability, it is incumbent on society to put restaints on the consumer, otherwise our society will continue to collapse. It is definitely more preferable for the consumer and business to be responsable, but the reality is that they are not, as Duncan has recognized. Perhaps it is because the consumer recognizes that he is doing wrong but finds himself unable to control his urge to spend money in destructive ways, so he votes for politicians that will help him end his habits and addictions by using the power of government to limit or eliminate the problem. >Alot of americans put themselves in that position. >They buy beyond their means and blame the rest of >society for it.
