Survival is certainly a basic human need upon which other needs are determined. Interesting though are skills needed for survival or adapting to environmental changes. Here, we are more collective in our thinking and being than anyone would really like to admit. I think it was the loss of individualism that has contributed to how we use our resources for survival. It has definitely changed how other species adapt. I'm glad some of my ancestors were uncivilized and that I can almost imagine what that means. I would like to live the old ways because inside I know we are all related, everything is related. What has been lost is the ability to see this.
This is why when I hear about solutions I know that it is not going to work very well. Only one thing is going to work and that is for human beings to realize they are only a part of nature and they cannot survive without a balance in nature. It is hard to imagine just how long it will take or how unpleasant it will have to be. I'm thinking geologic time here.
