And, I dispute the idea that there is only so much to the "cake". The economy can and has grown providing millions of new jobs. And tax revenues to the Federal government and state governments are at all time highs. Of course, government spending is at all time highs too. In fact, WHATEVER amount of money the Federal government takes in, they ALWAYS spend all of it and then some. And I also dispute that taxes have gone down....government fees, use taxes, licenses and many other forms of taxing have sky rocketed. Everytime someone purchases sometime they pay taxes in the form of sales tax or things like tire taxes and so forth. And since the prices of things you buy goes up, so do the taxes. And you show me the person whose property taxes have dropped! BTW, have you gone in to get a copy of your birth certificate lately? The price for that has doubled or tripled. How about a fishing or hunting license....gone through the roof. Campsite fees...through the roof. Gasoline taxes....steady rise. Parking fines....sometimes more than the car is worth.
