Author: Maren and Zane
Subject: Joining!

Name: Maren
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Description: Maren is from a frozen inland, and it is reflected in her appearance. Her skin is the same color as the snow that cloaked her home, eyes the same color as the dark clouds that kept the sun from her land. Her hair, a dark brown, wavy curtain that falls nearly halfway down her back, and her gray eyes were considered odd in her small village of blond-haired, blue eyed folk, and she was avoided for that. Because of that avoidance, Maren has become slightly withdrawn, tending not to speak unless she feels it is important. But who knows, in a new place and among a more diverse people, Maren may become a different person entirely.
Wants to bond a dragon?: Ooh yeah.

Name: Zane
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Description: Maren’s younger brother is nothing like his older sister, barring his pale skin. He has straight blonde hair, pale as new corn, and his eyes robin’s-egg blue. Unlike his sister, Zane grew up in the center of society, a laughing, cheerful boy. Like most of the other boys in his village, Zane is a dare devil, constantly doing what others would consider crazy stunts with no apparent regard for his safety. Contrary to what others may believe, Zane also has his more serious side, and it will occasionally show through when he believes the time is right.
Wants to bond a dragon?: Yus, please!
Your email: Same as above.

History: Not very far from Tundra Island is an island. It’s not very large, not much more than an oversized rock, just barely big enough to hold a tiny village. The remaining bit of island is covered in dense forestry, and the inhabitants of the island make their living from the plants and animals of the forest, and, of course, the sea that surrounds them. It would be a peaceful, almost idealistic life, if it were not for the Rokor. The red eyed demons routinely scrounge the defenseless village, killing many. It was into this uncertain life the siblings were born. Their parents were skilled hunters, and so respected in the village. Their life was fairly uneventful, or rather, so full of eventful attacks it merely seemed uneventful to them. Maren patiently bore the hatred of her townsfolk, and the teasing of her peers (she knew the whispers- “She’s part Rokor- why else could she have such strange hair? And those eyes!”), even if a bit unwillingly, and Zane continued to impress his friends with his stunts. Until, one day, Maren found the dragon knight. He was dying, both of physical sickness and heartache. The girl, then fifteen, gradually pieced his story together as she attempted to nurse the ill knight back to health: He had been flying with his blue when a sudden storm blew up, tossing them, as easily as one might a toy, out to sea. The valiant blue had struggled, but both had been blown straight into the frothing waters. The man survived, for his struggling dragon had managed to toss him to the relative safety of a piece of driftwood (also blown out to sea by the storm) before the surging sea dragged him down. Of course, Maren was saddened, but she did not know what a dragon was, and told him so, and was soon informed of the wonders of the dragons. For weeks, Maren nursed him in her family’s cottage, until it appeared that he was actually getting better, at least physically. The man was still sick at heart, and he repeatedly told Maren and Zane, who would occasionally stop by to listen to the tales of dragons, that he could not live without his blue. Then, abruptly, one day he took a sudden turn for the worse, and died the next day, but he had wrought a change in Maren. The quiet, almost timid girl had suddenly become outspoken, telling the entire village of the dragons. Should they not go to that island, join them and live peacefully, protected from the Rokor? The townspeople scoffed at her, rolling their eyes and informing her that the dragons and their offered protection were just a tale made up by a dying man. They would stay here, where at least they had a home and a living, thank you very much. All except Zane. He had known the man, and he, too, believed there was a better life than this one of terror, and quietly told Maren so one day. Undaunted, Maren accepted her brother’s offer of support in finding Tundra Island, and maybe even becoming a dragon knight. For yes, they did dream of bonding with one of the mighty dragons, one of the elite, so they would never have to know the fear of the Rokor again. Their parents were understandably upset, for Zane was one of the most promising young men in the village- Maren….Well, she was just too much of a problem, stirring up such trouble with her strange looks and equally strange talk, and they wouldn’t miss her terribly. Try though they might, the two had made up their minds, and disappeared late one night. And now, here they are.
